Frequently Asked Questions

What does a registered agent do?

A registered agent is a person or company designated to receive official government mail, legal documents (like lawsuits), and notices from the state on behalf of your LLC. They must have a physical address in the state during business hours.

Is a registered agent required?

Yes. Every LLC and corporation must have a registered agent in the state(s) where they're registered. Failure to maintain one can result in your LLC losing good standing or being dissolved.

Can I be my own registered agent?

If you have a physical address in the state (your home, for example) and can be there during business hours to receive mail, technically yes. However, this means your home address becomes part of the public record. Many owners prefer to use a professional agent for privacy.

What happens if I miss the annual renewal?

If your registered agent service lapses, your LLC may lose good standing with the state. Worse, if legal documents are served and you have no agent to receive them, default judgments can be entered against you. We send renewal reminders 60 days in advance.
